Your First Class

We’re excited you’re interested in trying a class at PMA Merrimack!

Whether you're brand new to martial arts or getting back into training, we'll make sure you feel welcome and know what to expect. No experience necessary. Just show up ready to give it a try.

Before you come in

  • What to wear: Comfortable workout clothes are fine for your first class. No special uniform or equipment needed.

  • What to bring: Water, a towel, and a mouthguard if you have one.

  • When to arrive: Plan to arrive about 10 minutes early to check in and meet your instructor.

  • Before class: If you haven't completed your registration or waiver, we'll help you get that taken care of.

What to expect on the mat

You'll be greeted when you arrive and introduced to your instructor. You'll warm up with the class, learn some fundamentals, and participate at a pace you're comfortable with.

Nobody expects you to keep up with someone who's been training for years. Your instructor will explain what you're doing, answer questions, and modify exercises as needed.

And don't worry about being thrown into a fight. Beginners aren't expected to spar, and you'll have the opportunity to learn techniques in a controlled, supportive environment.

Where parents sit

If you're bringing a child to a kids class, we have a comfortable seating area overlooking the mat through a glass partition. You're welcome to stay and watch your child participate, and there's Wi-Fi available if you need it.

Which class should I choose?

If you're not sure where to start, Muay Thai is a great option. It's beginner-friendly, provides a great workout, and you can start learning the fundamentals right away, even without any experience.

Interested in Jiu Jitsu instead? That's fine too. You don't need to settle on a program before you've tried it.

Once you're a member, your tuition covers every class you're eligible to attend on the schedule. You're free to explore both programs and figure out what you enjoy most.

Your first class is free

There's no reason to commit to anything before you've been on the mat.

Your first class is free, with no obligation to join. Come meet the instructors, get a feel for the training, and decide for yourself whether it's something you'd like to continue.

One membership. Every class.

Tuition is monthly, with no long-term contract. You can train across our programs, try different classes, and find a schedule that works for you.

If you decide it's not for you, there's no year-long commitment hanging over your head.
